Extraction Stories

Mountain Language by Harold Printer which is one-act play and first performed at the Royal National Theatre in London on 20 October 1988 with Michael Gambon and Miranda Richardson.

We have filmed short digital BSL two scenes performed by Deaf actors bringing these stories to life, This project would give deaf children the opportunity to participate and develop their own work where Deaf pupils at Thomas Aveling school will create a piece of art work, Illustration, Drama or Poem-Short stories and animation /media - which they are drawn to and will be supported by deaf facilitators and other arts professionals.

Introduction

Extraction Stories is a literacy project which we have developed five extraction monologues from well-known English Literature plays -

Macbeth & Hamlet by William Shakespeare
Miss Julie by August Strindberg
The Cherry Orchard by Anton Chekhov
Mountain Language by Harold Printer

Those monologue have been performed by Deaf actors bringing these stories to life. Creating tailor-made resource collection of short BSL monologues as the key tool for workshop starting point, to give deaf children the opportunity to participate and develop their own work process in translation from English literature to British Sign Language in as flexible a way as possible, to enable lead their project to able face their challenges in their lives with encouragement and develop with their literacy skills further. All the students monologue video translation work will be promote in media platform to give a sense of their very own legacy of their abilities to work in both language forms.
