On Christmas Eve, Scrooge is visited by a series of ghosts who come to warn him if he sets on his miserly ways, starting with his old business partner, Jacob Marley.
D-live! is the only Deaf Theatre production in the UK who work with Digital live theatre, where the stage actors interact with screen actors through rich theatrical and BSL performance which bring imaginative characters to life through digital theatre.
Scrooge was a new, predominantly visual, adaption production of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol. We used a 3D mapped digital set as part of the production with one live actor interacting with various pre-recorded characters. Scrooge! brings the classic festive story to a brand new audience of deaf and hearing families told in BSL and English.
This was D-live!'s first theatre production working with a new style of visual theatre. We created short fantasy stories through Visual Vernacular which also embodies a cirque/physical/visual theatre style.
Deaf Awakening is a brand-new theatrical production that explores the deaf world perspective through a series of monologues, dialogues and short scenes. We want this to be a celebration of deaf culture, showing the beauty of BSL and the visual ways that deaf people communicate. As well, we will also shine a light on the challenges deaf people face living in a hearing world and the daily obstacles in our path whether that be from discrimination, ignorance or a lack of awareness.
